Another round of strong storms is possible in central Iowa Thursday night, the National Weather Service has warned.
Damaging winds and large hail possible
The storms could bring damaging winds, hail as large as golf balls, and heavy rain late Thursday and into the early hours of Friday morning, the NWS said.
Timing: Late Thursday night into Friday morning
The storms are expected to begin moving into central Iowa late Thursday night and continue through the early hours of Friday morning, the NWS said. The storms are expected to be most severe in the Des Moines metro area and surrounding counties.
Stay weather aware
The NWS is urging residents to stay weather aware and to have a plan in place in case of severe weather.
Here are some tips to stay safe during a thunderstorm:
- Go to a safe place inside a sturdy building.
- Stay away from windows and doors.
- Do not use electrical appliances or touch metal objects.
- If you are caught outside, find a low spot away from trees and other tall objects.
